Points to Ponder

This week, we are invited to reflect on our own lives and journeys. On Sunday, members of our congregation shared their stories of waiting and hope.

Our purpose in sharing is not to solve anyone’s suffering, explain God’s purposes, or rush one another toward a happy ending. Like the story of Job, this is an opportunity to acknowledge pain honestly, wrestle with difficult questions, pray for one another, and encourage one another. Some stories may still be unfolding and that’s okay.

Sharing Guidelines

  • As a group, commit to keeping everything shared during this time confidential. This includes not repeating another person’s story to a spouse, partner, or anyone outside the group.
  • Share only what you feel comfortable sharing. It’s okay if your story does not have a resolution.
  • It’s okay to express questions, confusion, disappointment, grief or uncertainty.
  • Feel free to identify ways God has sustained you, even if circumstances have not changed.
  • Allow space for silence when it is needed.
  • Pray with and for one another without trying to fix or resolve the situation.

Reflection Questions

1.     Reflect on a season of suffering or difficulty that you’ve gone through. Feel free to share if you are comfortable doing that.

2.     What does hope in God look like when your circumstances haven’t changed?
