With a friend, your family or in your small group, discuss the following questions:

  1. Read Colossians 1:24. What is the significance of Paul saying that his sufferings are “for you” in this verse? How does this help us understand the cause of his suffering? How does the end of 1:23 and all of 1:25 relate to his suffering “for you”?
  2. Read 1:25-27. According to these verses, what is Paul’s missionary work all about?
  3. Read 1:28-29. How do these verses relate to 1:25-27? How do they further explain the purpose of Paul’s missionary work?
  4. Why is it significant that Paul sees Jesus as the fullness of the word of God? What are the implications of this?
  5. Why does proclaiming Christ result in suffering? How does 1:15-20 help us here?
  6. Is the Jesus that we worship and proclaim just as big and significant as Paul’s? How should this text push us to see Jesus as more significant than we often realize?
  7. Do we see that Jesus is worth suffering for? Do we see that suffering to share the true Jesus with others is worth it? How can we grow in this way?
