Isaiah 42:1-9

Date: March 16, 2025

Speaker: Joel Kelsey

  1. Isaiah 42 describes Jesus as a servant who brings justice with gentleness. How does this challenge the way we think about leadership and influence?
  2. Jesus rejected the fight for power in His interaction with Pilate, John 18, He repeatedly denies the opportunity to grasp power or to defend Himself. What does this mean for how we live as His followers today?
  3. Isaiah 42:3 says, “A bruised reed He will not break, and a smoldering wick He will not snuff out.” What does this reveal about Jesus’ heart for the broken? Have you ever felt like a bruised reed or a smoldering wick?
  4. Our culture values strength, dominance, and control. How does Jesus’ approach to power (humility, sacrifice, gentleness) challenge the way we typically view success?
  5. We often project our own expectations onto Jesus. In what ways do people today try to reshape Jesus into who they want Him to be?
  6. Isaiah 42:7 says Jesus came to open eyes and free people from bondage. How do we sometimes experience spiritual blindness or captivity without realizing it?
