Psalm 23:3b
Scripture: Psalm 23:3b
Date: May 11, 2025
Speaker: Trish Haq
- Have you ever been lost? What did it feel like to not know where you were or which
way to go? How did you find your way, and what did it feel like to no longer be lost?
2. Have you ever struggled with a decision, and felt unsure which way to go? Why do
you think it often creates so much fear and anxiousness when the path forward
doesn’t seem clear?
3. Do you believe there is only one perfect path for your life? Why or why not? Trish
shared the analogy of relying on a GPS system for navigation. In what ways does this
provide a helpful framework to us as we think about trusting and relying on God’s
leading to find our way? In what ways does the analogy perhaps fall short?
4. In your own life, what kinds of things do you find helpful when you are trying to make
major decisions? In what ways do you seek God’s direction? In what ways do the 3
options below help? In what ways can they be challenging for us?
a. Scripture
b. Prayer
c. One Another
5. What do you expect the ‘right paths’ to look like? What helps you to know that you
are ‘on the right paths’? Discuss the idea that the right paths are not always easy or
free of suffering. Do you think this is true?
6. Psalm 23 includes two very different pictures of what it looks like to follow Jesus.
The path includes green pastures and quiet waters, but It also includes the darkest
valley. Does your understanding of what it means that ‘He guides me along the right
paths” allow space for both? In what ways have you experienced the Lord’s leading
in paths of rest and refreshment, as well as through the darkest valley? Have you
ever experienced both realities at the same time?
7. Where do you think the ‘right paths’ that Jesus guides us along lead to? If our hope is
meant to be anchored in where the paths lead, where should our hope be placed?
8. The Psalmist says that the Lord guides him along the right paths “for his name’s
sake”. So often we seek God’s guidance for our own benefit. Psalm 23 is suggesting
here that God’s guidance for us is ultimately not for our own sake, but for the sake of
His name. What do you think this means?
9. In what areas of your life today are you in need of God’s guidance? What ‘right paths’
might God be calling you to walk along?
Pray for one another out of the things that you have shared, most especially your answers
to question 9. Pray for the Lord’s leading, not only in the decisions you make, but also in the
ways that you are being shaped and formed. Pray that as the Lord guides your life, that you
would be led straight to His heart.
