Exploring the Biblical Narrative

1. Understanding the Plot of the Bible:

• When we look at the overall story of the Bible, what are the key elements of its plot?
• What is the setting?
• What is the crisis or problem?
• Where do we see the rising action building up?
• Can you identify the climax or turning point in the story?
• What events demonstrate the falling action?
• How does the story reach its resolution?

2. Recognizing Biblical Parts in Romans 8:17-27:

• How many of these parts of the biblical plot do you notice referenced in this passage?
• Where in the text do these parts appear, and what do they reveal about the story Paul is telling?

The Climax and Its Implications

3. The Accomplishments of Jesus’ Death, Resurrection, and the Spirit:

• According to Paul, what was achieved by the climax of Jesus’ death and resurrection, along with the gift of the Spirit?
• How do these events relate to the overall biblical plot—specifically the setting, crisis, and rising action?

4. Living After the Climax:

• How does understanding that we are living in the time after the climax but before the final resolution help us interpret this passage?
• Why do you think Paul emphasizes suffering, groaning, and prayer in this context?
• What does Paul mean when he says that we are “waiting for the revealing of the glory that is to be revealed in us”? (the NIV "in us" the closet to what the Greek says)
• How does creation’s eager anticipation of the revelation of God's children fit into this?
